Restaurant Review: Asha’s
January 1, 2008 by Narayanan Aier
Last Thursday, I went with my family and a few friends to Asha’s, here at Wafi City, Dubai. This is probably my third time to this restaurant. The first time I went to this place I was totally smitten by its ambiance and the friendliness of its staff. The second time around, I went for a lunch date. The waiters were still friendly. But I guess my afternoon was memorable more because of my date. This time, the waiters were still friendly, albeit a bit slow (Aunty kept saying, “this is the reason why their popularity is going down”).
And the food? Absolutely “ravishing”. That is if you know what to order. Fish, Paneer and Dal Makhni. I’m a vegetarian, so I have no personal opinion about the first one (My friends and family tell me the Hamour is good). Paneer (cottage cheese) is my favorite kind of fat. So, I might be a bit biased on that front. Dal Makhni- It’s the best I have tasted. I have ordered it on every single visit to Asha’s. It’s so rich, so full of cream. Yeah, yeah, I know it’s too much fat etc. etc. But it’s worth letting go off your diet for just this one meal. Oh and ya, they make very nice juices. This time the waiter asked for our preferred fruits and then whipped up some nice mocktails. They have a good choice of liquor too.
A few tips before you go to Asha’s. Reserve your table. And if you plan on a weekend dinner, reserve at least a week before. Also their service is a bit on the slow side. That means if you decide to have a three course meal, keep aside about two and half to three hours.
I had a good time at Asha’s. I don’t know about it’s popularity ratings, but it is still amongst the most crowded restaurants. Last Thursday was no different, with every table being occupied for all the three hours that I was there. It has been one of my favorite restaurants in Dubai and the last visit reminded me why.
Please go and visit it if you haven’t. And if you have, then please do share your experiences with me.
Asha’s is owned by popular Indian singer Asha Bhonsle. For reservations, call: 04-3244100 and ask the operator to connect you to Asha’s.
