Movie Review: Tashan
April 24, 2008 by Narayanan Aier
What follows is not much of a review than a disparagement of this movie.
This is probably by far the worst movie that I have seen in recent history. Yasraj films have lost it. They have lost the ability to differentiate between good directors and absolutely horrendous directors. As my friend puts it rightly in her blog the director Vijay Krishna Acharya should stick to his vocation of dialogue writing. The film has got nothing going for it. The script is useless, the story line is nonsensical, the costumes are shocking, the dance sequences are atrocious and the cinematography was ghastly. No kidding! Some of the camera angles actually gave me a headache.
Anil Kapoor and Akshay Kumar were good in the execution of their roles. Although their killing of the English language is entertaining initially, it starts to get to you later on. Saif Ali Khan doesn’t have much to do. And Kareena Kapoor is average. But the most scandalous part of the movie was left for the last twenty minutes action sequence. The director’s brain must have gone for a walk when these stunts were being played out.
The director surely thinks we Indians are dimwits. Why do I say that? Well, there are so many scenes in the movie where the change of sets and locations is totally preposterous. In one scene Kareena, Akshay and Saif are in Haridwar and in the next scene they are driving down a narrow road in Greece! (with Kareena in the boot!) Let’s face it, who is the director kidding? There are no rivers near Haridwar that have crystal clear blue water!
The only saving grace for the movie is Vishal-Shekar’s music. They have done a tremendous job.
If Yashraj keeps throwing such garbage at us, very soon they might loose their stature as the production powerhouse. They might do well by being selective about the script and the director.
I would give this movie a 0.5 on 5. Just a note: That’s the lowest rating a movie has ever got on my blog.

Can’t believe what you just read? I asked one of my friends who was online what he thought of this movie review. And this was his response (He has seen the movie too):
Me: do i need to berate it more?
M.J: yes i think lil more
Me: or shud i tone it down a bit?
M.J: .5 on 5 is generous
Me: lols…no dude…in future i mite see a worse movie…then i need to have some room for that
M.J: no remote possibility
Me: lols
M.J: nothing can be worse than this…are these stars carzy…how do they sign films like this?

hi…i guess i will never ever watch a movie in the first day first show after this…this movie has been a total disappointment….
Juz agree the fact that the movie is hell.. but i cant understand why Rajinikanth is being pulled here.
for heaven sake .. f**k sake.. stop commenting about Rajini… i know it would be hard for you people to digest the truth that bollywood movies are doing bad as always.
even if by mistake some good movie comes out like U Me Aur Hum, again u idiots are there to make it a big flop…. tell me what is that u ppl like except item songs..
also FYI… Rajinikanth’s fans are not not only shocked with this movie.. we are shocked with all your stupid larger than life like movies….
Dear not needed, I’m not saying Rajni is bad. I never said that. In fact I enjoy his acting and stunts, and that’s why I said only he can pull off stunts like that.
I didn’t know that Bollywood movies are doing bad! Who gave you that piece of information?
And f.y.i. before commenting please take a look at the review that I gave for U Me Aur Hum. I gave it a 4.5 on 5.
Yup true! Why the hell s rajni being pulled here! If you r not able to understand the entertainment value he provides jus shut the f**k up n be with it.. Dont pull in his name when he s got nothing to do with it..
Dear Aravind Prakash…I very much understand the entertainment value Rajni provides. Everyone does! And no one here is disagreeing with the fact that he is a great actor and his movies are superb. If you see Tashan, you will notice that they try to copy a lot of the stunts from Rajni’s movies. That’s why I brought up his name.
I wonder how the hell do the critics comment the movies!
Its the people who have to decide! Its jus the entertainment value that makes people take the decision and mind you good camera work, good music, good acting n every other aspect s secondary.. The sole purpose is to entertain people be it via comedy be it via sentiment be it via action.. but the core is enjoying a ‘feel good’ attitude after watching the movie.. and thats wat a Rajni movie gives me.. I dont care whether he fights like a super man or spider man… Its jus entertainment quotient I want from the movie.. and his sheer screen presence gives me that!
No point in bringing his name in here for comparision of stunts in a bull shit movie like this.
Dear Rahul K, I’m not critic! I’m just a random guy who happened to see the movie and those were my reactions. And I definitely didn’t ‘feel good’ after the movie.
And since quite a few people out there seem to think that I should not drag Rajnikanth into this, I rephrased my blog post. Hope this version is agreeable to you all.
Hey dude..
Out of all the movie lovers in India or ma be even the world [;)].. am sure 90% would be rajni lovers! so dont start replying for all the comments man.. am sure you have to keep replying all your life..[:D]

Uh oh.. I booked the tickets five minutes ago.

I am scared now
Oh and by the way, good review
hey disha, thanks for the compliment!
Yashraj Films thinks Indians will just accept whatever is thrown at them if there is fab starcast and a few meaningless songs, like in Tashan. I am still repenting my decision to watch this movie. Urghhh…

Many gossips hv been going around abt Saif and bebo’s off screen relationship, i will watch the movie bcoz i want to see hw they looks on the on screen as well.
Dear,Friend
Tashan has been in news for a long time now. The movie stars Akshay Kumar,
Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and Anil Kapoor in the lead. Akshay Kumar seems to
be unstoppable with 4 back-to-back successes in 2007. Saif Ali Khan and Kareena
Kapoor are on an all time high after the super success of Race and Jab We Met. Anil
Kapoor’s last two movies have been blockbusters (Welcome and Race). The curiosity
around Tashan has built up steadily over the past few weeks, major credit of which
should go to the star cast.

@Harsha, Sujoy and raz: Completely agree with you.
@Bollyfan: Well, what did you think of the movie?
@RES: Well I guess most of us are not from U.P! But, I thought the movie was made for the entire of humanity!
I have seen the movie did’t like it.Not a good one.Action scenes aren’t bad and ha bebo was looking hot.
Well,I saw Tashan..but was really bored half way through…
The movie didn’t live up to the expectations of a typical Bollywood fan…like me
Even, Jannat was not that great…
So, not many good movies coming out of Bollywood lately..
But, I’m really looking forward to Love Story 2050, the sci-fi flick of Priyanka Chopra & Harman Baweja..The promos seem really promising & personally I’m very fond of science fiction movies which are very rare in Bollywood..

I guess the only person who benefited from this movie is Kareena Kapoor..the kinda publicity and buzz she got from this movie is uncomparable. but sadly that had nothing to do with the movie per se rather all about her supposed size zero.
[...] WordPress.com trackback Tashan might have been a bummer at the box office, but it’s review sure did bring in a lot of visitors to this blog. It even recorded 33 comments. You can see more [...]
Somehow i missed the point. Probably lost in translation

Pathtic movie, Aksay was good in the movie but rest of them worked like a idiot especially Saif.
